Estimate on gallons of fuel to oil use

I recently got a 2005 Mercury 50ELPTO and wonder if anyone can estimate how many gallons of gas would be used for a full tank of oil in the motor, plus another gallon. Mostly running full throttle. Going to Canada for a week and about 100 miles to the nearest town so want to bring enough oil along. Any help useful ... thanks.

I understand mixing oil with gas would be 50:1. Would the same be true of oil injection in the motor?

Motors running at full throttle require the most oil. That ratio is 50::1. You could get by with less oil at lower RPM, but for the purposes of your question, I would recommend you figure it at 50::1.

If I remember correctly, that motor has only the motor-mounted oil reservoir, under the cowling, and not a remote oil tank. I would expect that reservoir to be a couple of quarts only.

Yep 50:1 would be the most oil you will ever use...

If you take 100g of gas w you take 2g of oil.

Another way to look at this question is that your engine at wide open throttle will burn about 5 - 5.5 gallons of fuel per hour. We can assume a boat speed of between 30 - 35 MPH with that engine (not knowing the boat type). At 30 mph you are consuming one pint of oil/hour. A 50:1 fuel/oil mix is one pint in six gallons. There are 8 pints in a gallon. So 8 pints of oil times 30 MPH would result in 240 miles of travel. But why all the worry. Take two gallons or one gallon and two extra quarts and leave one of the quart containers in the boat. Unless you are traveling on a motorcycle where space is a concern, the extra oil takes little space. Knowing the size of many lakes, 240 miles is not a lot of distance. From where we launch on Lake Of The Woods to the camp is 18 miles. A day of fishing can easily cover another 30 miles. Seven days of fishing can therefore easily cover 210+ miles and we aren't back to the ramp yet. You will need to get fuel somewhere so wherever that is, they will likely have oil as well.

Thanks for all this good info .... we plan on using around 50 gal fuel so will bring 2 gal oil and be safe! Thanks again ... John
