I have recently purchased a weldbilt 1648v and I am looking at the ETEC 40 to push it. I would like some input on prop selection. Anyone running something similar? What kind of speeds are you getting? The boat will be primarily used for duck hunting on Black and Cash River in Arkansas. An average load for the boat will be 3 guys decoys guns and a dog. I know the boat weighs about 400lbs and the motor is 240. I have heard good and bad about the ETEC but i have a dealer 10 min from my house so it will be what I purchase. I have heard with the 2.67 gear case the Etec can turn a larger prop than most 40s and even been told a 3 blade 19 pitch is what I should get. I just want some advice from anyone running something similar. While hole shot is considered im more concerned with top speed seeing as how im not racing anyone but running 5-7 miles down river. Any input will be greatly appreciated.

Re: ETEC 40 Prop selection

I'm not aware of anything "bad" that could be said of an Evinrude E-Tec.

Your selling dealer has all the charts and graphs and stuff to select the right prop. A 19-20 pitch sounds about right with the 2.67 gear ratio.

Re: ETEC 40 Prop selection

I think a 19" sounds reasonable I looked up some tests 18' Waco 600lbs,240 motor, 550 crew,48 lb gas,50 lb test gear,ss 17" ss prop.
31.5 @ 5500.Triton 16' 680 lbs,240 motor, 50lb gear,200 lb crew,72lb gas, 17" ss prop.31.5,
An Aluma craft 1650 was out side the norm.680 lb, 400 lb crew,55 gear,80 lb batteries13" al prop 26.2 @ 5700 rpm.
I don't think the 1650 test was a miss print as the rpm and speed seems reasonable.
I assume these boats are similar configuration to yours but heavier dry weight.
I included the 1650 to show that similar boats don't necessarily perform the same.
I do have a 77 Crestliner 18ft bare utility 375 lbs, w a 88 50 hp Evinrude 2.42 ratio, and a 19" al prop. 900lb all up weight.
Unfortunately I don't have any performance numbers but it leaps on plane and nearly flies pulls a 180 pounder up on a slalom ski.
and has carried many really heavy loads of lumber and such with little effort.
