etec or ho?any difference??

I have a 2003 evinrude 200hp HO.I bought it used a couple years ago.It does not have the etec label on the motor,just HO.When I browse forums or google evinrude HO for information everything seems to read "etec HO"If anyone can clarify this for me I would appreciate it.Thanks

I think your motor is one of the FICHT models, not an ETEC. I'm not really up on the new motors (I like the old ones better), but I found reference on the net to a 200 hp FICHT high output motor being produced between 2002 and 2005.

what is the model #. if it starts with F it is a Ficht.

Etech was not out in 2003. All Evinrude 200 models that year were 90 degree big block Fichts, including a 200 HO model. The major differences are in the injectors. The Fichts use a magnet to pull the injector open and a spring to close it. The Etechs us a magnet to both open and close-a more sophisticated design. Also, the Etech computers permit running different oil mixtures, and auto-winterizing, options which the Fichts do not have. The 200 HO model probably put out close to 220 hp.

That version is refered to as a DI. While it's not a Ficht it's a later version / generation of that technology just as the E-Tec is. The HO models produce a bit more hp but they also have the Lightning gearcase.

Thanks for the replies that makes more sense.My motor is the ficht.
The reason I wanted to know was because I was reading about a new oil claiming to be needed in the etecs,I think xd100.I have been running regular johnson/evinrude 2stroke oil.I have a hard time finding the oil recommended in my manual.Will I damage my motor with continued use of this oil??

You set an E-Tec to run whatever type of oil you want to. Standard, partial synthetic or full snythetic. The XD100 is Evinrudes version, any dealer should have it.
