Etec Stops Pumping Fuel

I have a 2018 etec 115hp that runs great, until it doesn't. When coming off the throttle, it seems that water rushes up from behind and gets into the outboard. After, it seems that the fuel pump is shorting out because it doesn't want to start unless I'm pumping the primer. Once it does start, it runs but will shut down unless I pump the primer every 30 seconds to 1 minute.

I know that I can be very gentle coming off the throttle to mitigate the water rushing back, but this isn't always possible and can't be the long-term fix. What can I do to fix this issue? Anyway to increase the waterproofing of the cowling? Add a secondary inline fuel filter? Thank you.

is this a new issue for you or has always been the case.... I doubt pumping the fuel bulb would compensate for a shorted High pressure pump on the VST.. in any case a shorted HP pump trigger an EMM fault code #94

the ETEC fuel system is sealed and I doubt rushing water would cause the issue . First thing to do is check for any LED,s on the EMM when things go South....if no codes (led's) are ON while running that is good.

If you have EV diagnostics check for codes logged recently if none then tackle the issue. Could be a failing lift pump , VST issue HO pump , injectors etc....

why not also check in with the ETEC user group and/or search their known bugs with your engine ....
