I have a 2018 etec 115hp that runs great, until it doesn't. When coming off the throttle, it seems that water rushes up from behind and gets into the outboard. After, it seems that the fuel pump is shorting out because it doesn't want to start unless I'm pumping the primer. Once it does start, it runs but will shut down unless I pump the primer every 30 seconds to 1 minute.
I know that I can be very gentle coming off the throttle to mitigate the water rushing back, but this isn't always possible and can't be the long-term fix. What can I do to fix this issue? Anyway to increase the waterproofing of the cowling? Add a secondary inline fuel filter? Thank you.
