Ok, Sort of a loaded question I know...And the swap wouldnt be Apples to Apples.

I run a 26' Tiara Walk Around Model 2600 with Twin 2001 Johnson 150's (Not Ficht)..They are 60 deg Looper carb 2 strokes. pretty heavy boat, but love it.

That said, I have a lead on Twin 2006 Evinrude Etec's, dealer maintained, computer printouts, all rigging. However they are 250's.

I realize thats alot more HP than I have now. So obviously I cannot simpily ask for fuel comparisons between thee two. Boat runs well with the 150's,,,,yes they do chow fuel.

I guess I'm asking This:: Are direct injection Etec's better on fuel than the technology I currently run?...Say, a like-for-like 150hp Etec VS my 150 2001 60 deg Looper?? Would I realize any fuel savings given my setup???

Fact----On a conventional 2 stroke some fuel is blown out the exhaust ports and wasted.---The concept behind a--- " direct injected " -----2 stroke is to inject fuel after the exhaust ports have closed.----Thus no waste.----After the exhaust ports close the operation in the cylinder is no different than what happens in the cylinder of a 4 stroke engine !!----The 250 HP may also be able to run at a lower RPM.----Takes the same amount of power to actually move the boat.

Thanks Racer....The increase in HP doesnt bother me. Using significantly more fuel would. The 2001 Looper 150's have been outstanding, but thirsty. Wonder what dropping the 250 Etec's on would do for me? bunch more fuel, about the same, less.

I know, so many variables. If the Etec's were the same HP (150) as Mine, I'd be leaning toward getting them as I should realize some fuel advantage...Not sure sure dropping the 250's on however.

If you can keep your foot out of it your in the 10-20% range.

Having said that...you can buy a whole lot of fuel for the price to repower the boat

Thanks Digbat

Agreed, repowers are pricy. I havent looked at this scenerio innpast due to that fact i can buy alot of fuel for that difference.

But in this case the Etec package is 7900. Ive had interest at my marina for mine at 2500-3000 each. Ive been rebuilding and selling older crossflows and can definetly get that. Thus Appx 2k net, I'd be doing the work myself.

Id preffer if they were 150's, same as mine...But if the 250's would yeild some fuel advantage, for this reasonable money outlay, id probanly do it.

These are not DIY engines to work on and since Erude has went kaput they dont have to supply parts or support for them.
