What, if anything, needs to be done to older engines to make them ETHANOL friendly???
I have a 1978 Johnson 115 V4, and the gasoline here in New York now has a 10% ethanol content. I know of a LOT of engines around here that have been having problems and are spending more time in the shop then on the water.
I would like to do any PREEMPTIVE work converting the fuel delivery system now, if that's what needs to be done>>>I have already installed a new fuel tank.
AGAIN>>thank you for my CONTINUING EDUCATION ;)

Re: ETHANOL and older engines???

One thing that definitely comes to my mind is the compatibility of the rubber components in the fuel system with alcohol blended fuels. Fuel lines, fuel pump diaphrams, and rubber carb components would be my concerns. I was told that the newer carb kits That have the "brown" gaskets as opposed to the black ones of the past are alcohol compatible.

Anyone else, please feel free to chime in on this though.

use a good water seperator and never keep blended fuels longer than 60 days. they have a tendancy to attract water. like it was said. keep a close eye on all rubber components. replace the fuel pump if your not sure. most modern stuff is more alchohol tolerant.
good luck and keep posting
