Euro bikes

So just doing a little lookin and dreaming about getting another bike for the pavement, and I had a bit of a mind fart from years back riding guzzi's ducs laverdas bmws.
So I got to thinking what would I get now as I have not ran pavement on anything less than a dual sport with knobbys for years (big 4 stroke thumper head for the hills)

Caffe style or cruiser HHMMMMMMM??????

I used to Road Race sportbikes, since then I have been grounded from them due to an unfortunate incident that placed me in a coma for 6 days.

Now I am 43 and getting the itch and for me I am looking at Harley Davidson Fatboy's or Heritage softail's.

I still get that drive to ride a sport bike and to be honest riding a sport bike is more fun then you should be allowed to have on two wheels but then again it became very clear that I simply cannot control myself(nor my right hand). I took her down the Colorado River Canyon in Utah on a borrowed FZR 1000 and it took a week for the bruising on my ribs to go away from my wife holding on so tight, got to give credit to her though she never once asked me to slow down. I kind of wish I had my racing knee pucks I could have made my wife scream a little louder.......

Getting a new bike bike scares the CR#P out of me we have so many looky lew drivers/tourist around here you really take your life in your hands.
At least with the big thumper hitting the backroads is not that bad except for the hunters, logging trucks, other bikers, horsey people, moose, deer, more horsey people

But there is a lot of forestry trunk roads and other forestry roads and trails.
(1 mile of paved roads to ten not paved around here)
Doing 40-50 MPH/80-90 KMH on dirt for hours is really easy.

Now pavement, to cruise or zoom in a crotch rocket, that is the question???

As a BMW rider for the past 20 years (I've been riding for 43 years) , I of course vote BMW! I ride an RT (my 3rd one) and have had also a 80' R100S and a 1150 GSA. Was in the BMW store tuesday and really like the 1300 KGT. Sport bike handling and power, RT range and comfort. I'm also quite interested in the F800GS, I can't shake my love of dual purpose bikes and they finally built one that isn't a total pig to ride off road. The salesman wouldn't let me see the new K1600 they were putting together in the back, told me to swing by today and have a look. I just might do that!
Also sitting there on the floor was an R1000RR which is pretty much the baddest bike on the planet right now that BMW has ever built. I don't want to ride hunkered down over a tank all day, so that one really isn't for me. They make so many bikes anymore, it's really hard to make up your mind in that store
I've ridden the cruiser style bikes and I personally just couldn't get excited about much. OK power, not very confidence-inspiring handling, poor brake balance, annoyingly loud and they all look the same to me.
I ride briskly, love a good canyon road but I'm not a maniac anymore, I don't want a full blown sport bike but I want that power, braking and handling to save my butt when I need it. Being bullet proof reliable helps also. Love my RT.

In my early 20's it was RD's and kawisaki triples (bro in laws at the time) then RZ's and euro bikes.
Went home and got back to bush biken, have not been back on a pavement burner since.

Just got my 85 XT 600 now.

Just got my 85 XT 600 now.

Nice choices I sold my Rz350 (kenny roberts signature bike) and bought a 50th anniversary R1

I absolutely love it Just dont buy a Harley. you might as well buy a 50 year old bike. your getting the same Tech way overpriced..

My buddy has a BMW rc1200 (I think) it does ride like a dream....

'71 R50/5. Very comfortable to ride. Probably won't go over 80 mph...Fun for country road cruisin'.

Had lots of buds that would lend me thier bikes when they went overseas, I had the luck to be able to ride so many different bikes that one would not have seen or riden over here at the time.

I presently have a frame up restored 1984 RD350L (last 2 stroke street bike). My suggestion to anybody buying a bike to first check insurrence rates on various makes and models. Some rates will make you fall over and hit your head on the floor.

I get a kick out of the kids today doing stupid stuff on the highway, my wife always made remarks about how they were going to get themselves killed being stupid like that, you know the type. After I took her for that one ride all we do is smile at each other when we see the kids.....

I had a 750 Shadow for about 9 years. A couple of weeks ago, I sold it and bought a dual sport (Kawasaki KLR650). I just wanted to try something different. So far I am enjoying it. I've been reading about the BMW bikes in case I decide I like it and want to pursue further.

I've ridden bikes for 40 years and all had been Japanese, my last was a 91VFR 750 Honda that I bought new and it still looks that way 20 years later, last fathers day my wife bought this for me, its a 2010 Harley Davidson VROD Muscle, the engine was designed by Porsche, smooth bike and torquey.
