Well the politician screwed up again. Houston mayor broke out of the area plan and evacuated Houston early. Results no one could get out from Brazosport to Orange.

He will say he wanted to give more time, but the plan is only good if followed.

People in the dangerous part, Orange, Port Arthur and Beaumont are locked in about a 18 hour trip with no fuel to get out of harms way.

Good work Mr. White.

Re: Evacuation

He's sunk either way. Either he evacuates too early and people whine about traffic or he evacuates too late and people die in the storm.

I don't envy anyone in public service anymore. They can't win due to the victim mentality of our society. Nobody wants to work together anymore.

If the "plan" had been followed and the people would have cooperated, it may not have been such an issue. However, as people panicked and tried to run, they overwhelmed the infrastructure. While I am not there and can't truly understand the stress levels, I would still think that 24 hours to go 150 miles and the hassle of all that is still a lot better than being in a house with 145 mph winds tearing it down around me. Yes?

UFM82

Try to get a million people out of anywhere in a couple days- it's not a cakewalk.

Better than too late. Awfully easy for you to critique, you know what they say about hindsight.

Re: Evacuation

There was a timely plan in effect. Followed it results in an even flow. Untimely order to evacuate results in gridlock. Why have an evac. plan and waste money to design if you do not follow it.

Re: Evacuation

My brother is driving from Baytown (far east side of Houston) to San Antonio, and the traffic is fairly light. This is on Friday morning.

The main failures are the lack of gas to get people out.

Ken
