Anyone ever blow a trolling motor fuse?
The small block type that connects to the battery terminal?

THe motor seems to operate perfectly after replacng the fuse.

I don't know anyone that has ever blown one of these, unless the motor was fried out.

(40# Minn KOta 12v)

Anyway, this happened on my buddies new (used 2002) boat when he was showing it off to me last October.
He is a mechanical and financial DUNCE!! and decided the motor was shot. He bought a new one and yesterday he told me he didn't know what to do with the old one. I offered him $50 and he took it. :) :D :) I replaced the fuse and it works.

Just wondering if there is something I should check over on the motor, without tearing it completely apart?

:D :) :D :)

On my Minn-Kota, the "small block thing" is a circuit breaker with a resettable red button on it. Hope you didn't throw the old one away??? RichG

It was label "fuse" right on it, and no reset button like the one I currently have on my boat.
I got a resettable 40A breaker from the store for $6.95.

A bad connection in the wiring anywhere can cause a fuse to blow or circuit breaker to open. Look at the wiring to see if there are any crimp connectors. Cut out any crimp connector or any taped up wires and solder all connections. A weak connection, causes resistance and resistance causes heat which will pop fuses and open breakers. Trolling motor for $50...sweet!

Remember, the first apostles were fishermen.

I believe the ones without the button reset after they cool off. Wish I had friends like that. :D
