I posted some time ago about my Garmin 188 switching of when the bow slammed down in a choppy sea.
I had previously rewired the whole boat and my opinion was that the unit had a dry joint.
After advice from this forum I retightened all the new connections I'd made but to no avail the unit still shut down occassionally.

Not wanting to be without the unit I thought of returning it to Garmin when I hauled out at the end of the winter.
I got the boat home in the yard this weekend, first job disconnect the battery to put it on charge.
I found that I hadn't tightened the wing nut down on the negative terminal, it was only on a thread and a half.

Turned the plotter on and wiggled the wire and guess what? the plotter went off, solving my problem.
Many thanks to all who posted advice previously
