I could not believe my ears this morning when I heard on the radio that they are making an "Evil Knievel Rock Concert" video.

I don't have a problem with making this video, it's just that the music used in this video will be supplied by Led Zepplin , Pink Floyd , The Who , and The Beatles .

It just seems to me that the American daredevil Evil Knievel, would allow his name to be used for an all British music video.

Now don't get me wrong, I love all of the above mentioned rock groups, I just can't imagine that Evil Knievel would not rather put his name to American rock bands instead.

Evil always rode a Harley-Davidson (American made), wore leathers that resembled an American flag, and was basically unknown throughout Europe , why would he sell out to Europe ?

Oh well, I guess money will buy just about anything .

Re: Evil Knievel

The above named rock groups "were" a part of American music and the sixties and seventies culture regardless of where the members were born.I must be missing something. What some are pleased to refer to as "American made" are loaded with components manufactured abroad,Harley Davidson included.

Reminds me of that song, "Bye bye, miss American Pie". Something is basiclly wrong with it, for sure.

Evil jumped mostly on the HD k-model and the xr750 series sportsters. But he also used some Brit bikes too. I'll have to look in the archives to see what brand, my memory aint what it used to be. :D

Re: Evil Knievel

ob,

I will agree that they were part of the American music scene, but they were refered to as the "British Invasion" and were seperated that way by the radio legends like Scott Muni who introduced these groups to the American youth of that time.

As far as Harley Davidson is concerned, I have a 2002 Springer Softail, and the only component that I found on it not made by Harley in America was the tires.

Everything else is stamped "Made In U.S.A.".

Re: Evil Knievel

That's the point I was making. If you bash overseas manufacturers at all you have to be consistant and not use the tires or electronic components either or it aint all American made.Just mostly, which aint bad.The term British invasion was indeed coined in the sixties as well.Evel Knievel would have seemed like more of a traitor perhaps if this concert was being held in the sixties, but like it or not , these groups are now part of American rock and roll history.

Re: Evil Knievel

Flahthead,

I think you are correct in the fact that Evil used brit bikes.

It was because of the AMF takeover of Harley-Davidson in the mid 60's, because AMF did not want the image that Evil was projecting at that time, so he used a 750 Triumph Bonneville for a couple of jumps, until AMF saw the marketing potential, and Evil returned Harley.

Yea ob , I guess your right, but that doesn't mean I have to accept it.

Guess I'm just being stubborn, oh well.

At least I got something going in this forum, it was getting pretty boring here for a while.

Re: Evil Knievel

And you are also right .I see the point you were making and everyone is entitled to a take on the subject. As long as the band members don't begin this anti-war bashing trash at the concert,in which case I may have to start my own thread.God bless America.

I was just trying to get something goin here, so I picked something out of the news today.

As far as I have been able to tell, the British Musicians appear to be following their Prime Minister, and trying not to stab him in the back, like the Hollywood types here.

Maybe the Hollywood types could learn something from those musicians from across the big pond.

Re: Evil Knievel

Kenny Evil also used his version of what seems to be a BSA gold star, he called the American Eagle motorcycle. He was riding the Brit stuff even before the AMF deal with HD. Kenny your head would spin if you knew how many parts on that springer were made in Japan. The first time I visited the final assembly plant in York. I could not beleive all the crates around the place that were shipped from Japan. But they are great bikes. I have a couple umm! well a few umm! well maybe more than I should have. :D :D Any how I think its great old Evil is doing something. Heck I thought he was dead.

Actually I think his son Robby has turned out to be more proficient in the sport.Course he's got a bit more technology on his side.Funny thing is , the only part that is made in USA on my Ymamahopper "is" the rubbers.

Hey Flaht,

I had that Springer completly apart when I had the frame raked and custom painted, and every component I took off was stamped somewhere on it "Made In U.S.A.".

Other than the tires, which were Yokohama, I could not find anything else made anywhere else.

Even the ignition was stamped "Made In U.S.A.", which really suprised me, and the computer for the fuel injection was made here too.

Maybe Harley is pullin the wool over my eyes too.

KennyKenCan

I'm not a Harley guy, but it seems like I can remember, that in the last few years (maybe after parting from AMF), Harley made a big effort to becoming a completely AMERICAN-made motorcycle.

Seems do-able, considering the number of parts on a motorcycle. I believe that AMF used "whatever", simply to save money.

Marty

Re: Evil Knievel

Kenny when I went to the plant it was 1989. At that time I saw crates of showa forks and lowers from japan and tons of electrical parts. I even think the rims were imported at that time. Yes your right they have gotten better at producing here in the USA. Why did you rake the 2002 frame. Heck you should have kept it and bought an aftermarket frame. Got any photos of it. I bought an 2002 flht carburated and am a little dissapointed with the twin cam motor.

Re: Evil Knievel

I saw a thingy on TV a while ago about him. Seems he was quite the boozer too, liver in about the same shape as the bones! :D And I thought I saw him on a triumph almost as often as a HD, but my thoughts there dont have much credibility. Robby rode hondas for a while i beleive too, which nowadays have about ten times the suspension of anything back then...
thats about all I can say on the subject
Craig
