Thanks for the help!

I've got a mid 1980's Evinrude 115hp outboard, mounted on an Enterprise center console mid v vessel that have set in a Florida backyard for 6-10 years with no real care.
I am told the engine was serviced 3-4 years ago and ran fine - (not sure I trust that info). The owner also says he placed some type of long term storage fluid into the system to protect the engine?
I know I will be replacing cushions, batttery, etc. but wondered what the logical series of steps were to get the system safely running again would be? I'm assured it will run with nothing more than a battery replacement - (again, I'm skeptical)
I'm just being cautious as to my first steps in making the old girl sea-worthy again.
Any info is appreciated!!!
Thanks in advance.

Re: Evinrude 115hp Outboard stored for years without care

This is what I would do as a minimum:
>drain all fuel (including carbs and tank) and refill with fresh.
>If it has VRO, mix your first tank with 50:1 pre-mix anyway, until you determine it works.Pump up the ball till hard, then drain carbs again. Pump up again before starting.
>replace lower unit oil and look for metal chunks and/or water
>The water pump impellar is probably tired by now. Replace it as a maintenance issue.(even if it looks good, the vanes have a memory by now)
>remove plugs and give each cylinder a drink of oil (WD-40 or 2-stroke oil) rotate over by hand (clockwise rotation) just to lube cylinder walls.
>reinstall plugs and fire that puppy up.(have the engine on a hose or in a full garbage can)Do not start it dry!! If you are running muffs and a hose, let the hose run for a few minutes before starting....

Good luck! :)
