I have an Evinrude 130 hp outboard motor on my pontoon boat and can not seem to get to the bottom of the problem. Originally the motor overheated and we were told the water pump needed to be replaced. We did that and then we would be out on the water and all of sudden it would lose power. When we would go full speed it would just die out, sometimes it would start again, sometimes it would turn over but not start. We were then told by a mechanic that we needed to replace the power pack and the ignition switch which we did. It seems that every time we call a mechanic they love to charge you $500 to replace the spark plugs so that has been done 3 times now!! The last time we went out on the water we didn't even get past the no wake zone before it lost power and wouldn't start again. A couple of times when we used the choke it would start and then as soon as you released the choke it died again. Even though we pay the mechanic in a timely manner, they will fix the boat enough to be back on the water once and then when it dies again they won't return your phone call. So I think the best bet is to try to do it ourselves! Any ideas?
