I have been looking for a Power Tilt Trim for my 1974 Evinrude 135hp.

I see mention of a 2 wire or a 3 wire electric motor and the possible need to buy a seperate motor relay to make it work. This motor has never had a PTT. What do I need to know in order to determine the correct connection, 2 or 3 wire?

Also have seen mention that there were 2 different pumps, can't recall the names. One was good the other was not so good.

Which style is the one shown?

Thanks for any help:confused:

Re: Evinrude 135 PTT Question

The PTT motor needs to run in both directions, to lift and lower the motor. Sometimes a 2 wire motor is used with 2 relays, and sometimes a 3 wire motor is used with two solenoids. The principle is the same.

Sometimes 3 wire motors are OEM and they are replaced with aftermarket two wire motors. The solenoids need to be replaced with relays, if this happens.

Generally the earlier PTT units used three wire motors. You need to find the correct unit, the number of the wires is immaterial, since both will work.

Re: Evinrude 135 PTT Question

Chris, Thanks for the quick response. If I understand correctly, This one has a 2 wire motor, aftermarket, and for it to operate they would have had to change the soleniods already.

You need to find the correct unit
The unit, picture, is listed as fitting '72- '77 units.

Wishin - thanks for that link, I had seen it and have been searching but couldn't find it. Did you end up finding one?

The Pic I posted looks like a Prestolite but also has the wires coming out of the top?
