I have a 93 140hp evinrude model 140cxtua. It cranks right up and idles good. When I start going and get to around 8 or 900 rpms through around 1500rpms it has a sneeze in it which I understand to represent a lean condition. Beyond 1500rpm it runs great. This motor has the 4 plastic carbs with no adjustments. The two air bleeder jets all have the same value for the top ones (I belive they are the low range jets) and the bottom ones are the same for two cylinders say a 36 and the other two are around 39. I recently bought this motor and the mechanic told me that he had messed with the jetting because one of the cylinders was flooding causing it to miss. I corrected that problem by cleaning all of the contacts under the flywheel. Turned out it was not firing all of the time causing it to flood and then miss. Anyway, should all of the mid range air bleeder jets be the same? If not does anyone have the jet sizes that this motor should have come with originally?

Thanks

I have an 85 140hp Evie also. I have
exact same problem. I have had it to
some supposedly good mechanics in this
area and they tell me that this is common
to the 140hp. They tell me that as you advance
throttle it is only actually advancing the spark
until you get up to that sweet spot of 1500
rpm you mention and then it smooths out as
it gets more gas. Mine has been completely
rebuilt and runs great except in that 800-1500
rpm range you mention. Is not a good troller.
But runs like a raped ape at anything over
the 1500 rpm mark.

Bob

The top air bleed jets are for the intermediate circuit and the lower ones are the idle circuit. Keep in mind these meter AIR. To go richer you go smaller.

Make sure your butterflies are all closed. A very common situation with those carbs and will act just about as you described.

Good luck!
