I am having problems starting my evinrude 150 v-6. I will start at the purchase of the motor that was bought without starting for 1000.00 dollars. Good deal if it runs. I started buy rebuilding entire controls and ignition, kill switch and wiring .
I put on a new used bosch starter, Pulled fly wheel replaced trigger and stater, then torqued flywheel. Replaced all coils, replaced both power packs, ---Not sure I wired the leads correctly to the coils which may be my overall problem,--- Now have spark on all cylinders. The motor turned over and started after 30 tries. Ran for 2 minutes then died and would not start again. So I pulled off the carbs and soaked each over night in carb cleaner then cleaned jets with wire blew out with compressor. Put them back together put new fuel and vacum lines. Installed new fuel line with bulb. It still just turns over and jumps and has a huge backfire. I have gained a lot of experience with my changing all from my manuel, I am just running out of options. This is my last resort to finally caving and taking it to a mechnic. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Check your wiring from powerpack to coils.

Orange/Blue wire is top cylinder.
Orange (plain) is center cylinder.
Orange/Green is bottom cylinder.

The Problem is that the colors are all solid orange except for ground and black and yellow cut off wire. I also noticed that the fuel pump is not getting fuel...just pumps air and makes gurgling sound at pump. I changed membrane and still gurgles.
Is there another way to ensure wires are correct on coils . I rewired all power packs to coils and had to slice packs to coils.
I have seen the diagram for color code but all cdi wires goint to the coils are solid orange.

Are you getting fuel to the carb bowls? Sounds like you arent
See if any fuel drains when undoing the plug
,if not check all hoses, nipple areas ,t junctions right back to the tank for air ingress
Check the fuel filter sealed too

Some thoughts about your fuel delivery system: Not sure just what fuel pump you are using on that engine. The factory originally put two pumps on that engine when it shipped from the factory. The are both different part numbers. If you are using original type fuel pump(s), you need to have two of them. Also, the factory does not make/sell rebuild kits for any of the V6 crossflow engine fuel pumps. That should tell you something about rebuilding the pumps on this model.

Yes I have two fuel pumps which the top one is getting air engress. I cannot get the bulb to force fuel to the pump thus the gurgling sound. The bulb will not get hard. I am running out of a 5 gallon atwood tank. I am just thinking that the boat ran for a few minutes on the wiring to coils ( does that make it wired right?) again thanks for all the imput.

If you are all connections from the tank are tight and your tank vent is open try pointing the arrow on the bulb upwards; this lets the valves in the bulb work somewhat better. The arrow on the bulb is pointing in the direction of the motor? Good luck

Oh Yeah that's a good point! I will check that out after work. I know that it's a directional bulb and is probably backwards! Thanks

You may also have a problem with the ball valves in that fuel hose bulb. One may not be working properly.

That was the ticket gentleman. I turned the bulb around and rewired the coils and she fired right up and ran her for 30 minutes with only a spark arch on starboard coil. Cleaned and retightened now it runs like a new motor! I want to thank all of you for your expert advice and help. I hope to be able to return the favor sometime.

Thanks again Steve:D
