I have an older 2 stroke Evinrude 15 with a long shaft. I need to change the impeller and wonder if I need to remove the extension part to be able to unhook the shift linkage? Does this outboard have a weep hole? When I ran it the water came out the 2 exhaust ports but nothing out a weep hole up top.

We need a little more information before guiding you further. What motor are we talking about here? Year or model number would help.

15704M 1977 Evinrude 15hp. Same as the 9.9's. Has long shaft for a sailboat with an extension of about 6" added in. Took bolts out of lower unit but don't see the shifter attachment.
Also, does it have a weep hole like some outboards, if so there is no water coming out. It does have water coming out two holes that seem to be exhaust. this water doesn't come out at first, but after it runs for a while. Had me worried that the pump wasn't working.
My intention is to replace the impeller and check it out. are there other parts that I need to replace while in there?

That motor did not have a tell tale from the factory I dont believe, unless it was added later. If it does there will be a small hose running from the block to a fitting on the cowl.

All you will get out of the exhaust relief holes that you mentioned is the misting of water. Is it overheating at all? Not a bad idea to change the impeller every couple years regardless, for ease of mind. Check out the Top \Secret Files link after my name for a thread that will help you out.

77 did I believe, 74-76 no telltale. Take the bolts out from the gearcase to the extension, not the extension to the midsection. Shift the motor until it drops, I believe it's reverse and it will drop down 1/2 an inch to reveal the shift coupler. Completely remove the bolt from the couple to drop the gearcase.

Confirmed #42 on the diagram shows an indicator nipple, IE telltale.

They get plugged up with dirt and need to be cleaned out periodically, even at the 90 degree fitting at the powerhead.
