Ok so first post here I think...
I recently picked up a new to me 23’ crestliner with a 175 intruder on it, model #E175GLETG. I am in the Southwest Washington area if that makes a difference. Was told it needed a reseal on the lower unit. Seller is a friend and I believe him to be honest with me. He was ready for a slightly smaller boat and I swooped in and got a deal on this one. I know next to nothing about outboards but am fairly mechanical with cars and trucks. It also needs the back deck replaced, just and I mean just starting to get soft, but back on topic. I want to reseal the lower unit and do the impeller while I am there. Seems a seal kit is around $70 same as an Impeller kit. What puller do I need for this. I see many in the $75-90 range and several in the $199 range. I am not doing this for my living but also appreciate a buy once cry once mentality.

Anyone care to spoon feed a noob with the info he doesn't even know he is missing yet...

Thanks

The only puller you might really need is some threaded rod 2 pieces 5/16" about 16" long and a 2X4 piece of lumber.-------That would pull the propshaft bearing housing.-----If a salty motor it may require something more robust.

It was used in saltwater. He did have it winterized annually and gone through in the spring. My old man used to keep his boats running. After he passed the PO took it to a reputable marine shop for the maintenance. The lower unit seal was found Either in a fall or spring time inspection, don't know what one. I do have an assortment of pullers. Could I just use 5/16” rod with them?

Also some of the videos I have seen they use rod or screws. And some they use a puller with hooks on them. I would assume the screw in one is better as you not pulling on aluminum, I assume it’s aluminum, with hooks.

thanks
