Evinrude 1956 fastwin 15 hp -model 15016

First question: i have fixed magnets on flywheel , one side needs recharged( re- magnatized) the other side is fine (strong magnetic pull).

How do i recharge it?

Also, i am put the Armature plate ( with coils , etc ) back on the motor.

What do i need to know?

Do i have to line up the the key on fly wheel with any thing , other than magneto cam and fly wheel ?

Sir,
I'm almost positive that the magnet you are speaking of that needs remagnetizing is actually just a weight used to balance the weight of the true magnet on your flywheel. That way the flywheel won't try to wobble like your washing machine when the load isn't balanced. So I believe your flywheel is fine. As far as the armature plate, you may need a manual. It is pretty straightforward if you know what it looked like before it was taken off. Why would you take off the whole armature plate? Did you have a bad crankshaft upper seal?

i have 1956 service manual , it is not worth dam. is 40.00 dollars of trash.
i also have clymer , about the only thing there good for is start a fire.

but i replaced coil , wires ,points, cond. there are bolts on bottom of plate you have to take off to replace wire, plus i was checking top seal.

Well, that makes sense! I don't remember any problems the last time I did it. Just make sure the brass ring below the plate is flat side up if I remember correctly. You will be better off when F-R wakes up in the morning. He'll be able to quickly advise you on this. He also advised me to change the lower crankshaft seal on my '56 fastwin because it was prone to failure which will ruin the powerhead. I am going to do it soon. You might consider it while your working on yours.

Don't have to line up anything to put the stator plate back on, just make sure you get the throttle cam on the front of the plate out front where it belongs, then move it through the throttle range to make sure nothing is binding. White engine grease works good to lube it a little. Should be just one magnet on the flywheel, clean it a little if it's dirty, but don't go too far and sand it shiny...sometimes they don't like that. Great motor once you get it up and running...they're like the eveready bunny.

All motors built since WWII have Alnico magnets, which are almost indestructable. Unless your flywheel has been in a fire or something, the magnets are not bad.

Lubricate the armature plate sparingly with just a smear of EP grease. Too much lube just splatters all over the points.
