hello how is there a way to check the oil in the lower end or is there just grease? thanks

There are two big slotted drain/vent screws down there. It drains and is filled from the bottom hole. 80-90 weight marine gear oil.

If you don't know whats going on inside as suggested drain it.
note the condition if like coffee with cream you have water intrusion.
Fill from the bottom hole until it comes out the top.Insert the top screw
then quickly remove the filler and insert the bottom screw.
