If the primer bulb was full and would not take more, then the float valves were working and the float bowls must have been full unless the float valve needles are sticking closed.

When you rebuild the carburetors, be sure to add the new needles that come in the kits and connect them to the float arms with the clips as shown in the thumbnail.

Check your ignition coils - sometimes they break down after warming up. If they are discolored, cracked, swollen or if the potting is deformed, it's best to replace them.

also do you think it might be from water in the tank.i dont have a water fuel seperater.the gas in the clear filter didnt look very good.we have been having rain and was wondering if that might be the prob.because 3 weeks b4 it was running great.no hiccups at all.should i install one b4 i get carbs redone?

You could definitely have a problem with water - my nephew did this past spring with my old 1976 115.

We finally got it cleaned up but he got the water from the gas he bought at the marina which had just opened for the season.

It is a practical necessity to have a full-sized water separating fuel filter these days, and to dump it frequently.

should i start there b4 i go anyfurther.and what i explained to you, does that sound like water in the fuel.would the motor react that way.i just dont want to knowb4 i spend the money if it isnt necessary.do you agree?

Start with the filter; if you have water in the tank, it will keep getting pulled into the engine because oil and gas float on water and the pickup is at the bottom of the tank.

You can remove the hose barb on the engine end of the fuel hose, and hand pump some fuel into a clear glass. Let it sit for 20 minutes-any water will settle to the bottom. You will be able to see if you have a fuel/water issue. Often, an engine will run with water contamination, but it will have no power.

this is where im gonna start,i went and bought water fuel separater, new sender, and some stuff that will break down the water that is in the tank,i made a mistake when i removed the sender (float)what was left of it anyways.i didnt replace the sender unit i just covered it back up with the sender unit cap.but i didnt replace the gasket,so the first time i took it out it ran great, then we got rain, after the rain,i took it out again, then it ran like crap, the water in the filter looked cloudy,so i think i got water in the take.completely my fault,i just get xcited to go boating.so i hope i didnt damage my engine ,i pray this works.

If the you have a lot of water in the tank, the separator may fill up with water soon: you can unscrew it and dump it into a container (to be discarded later.) Reuse the filter and you are good to go again.
