i have an evinrude 35hp (1979) that will start right up when the engine is cold but once the engine warms up usually after 15 minutes it will quit and will not start back up again until the engine cools down. to be honest i have not yet began to troubleshoot this problem yet but if you have any suggestions they will be greatly appreciated.

check your spark, immediately after it shuts down.. if loosing spark on just one cylinder, i would consider bad coil, both cylinders bad power pack.

Although it's unlikely I've had both coils go south one after the other. You can check the primary and secondary windings of the coils (actually, they're transformers) with an OMC repair manual and an Ohm meter. As the other writer says, the powerpack is a good prospect, but you can't check that with an Ohm meter. Also: check plastic casing of coils for cracks, fill any cracks with silicone seal.

Thank You I will keep that in mind also. Like I said earlier I'm not sure when I'll be puttting the boat in the water but hopefully it will be soon. Then again this is Michigan so it could snow tomorrow.

Could be worse. I'm in Austria 8 mo./year where 2 strokes (even E-Tec) are
outlawed. In Germany where 2-strokes are (still) allowed, an incredibly difficult written boat driver test (e.g., when a ship horn toots ._ _ _ what does that mean?, memorize various bureaucratic legal rules, etc) to run anything over 5hp at the propshaft. So there's something worse than a late (or no) spring!
