Please help
I have just bought a short shift evinrude 1984 25hp 2stroke outboard engine.

Its not been run for well over a year.

I got it running with fresh fuel.
Put it into a big water barrel and its not pumping water and the engine got very hot.

When I took it out the water barrel there was some oil leaking out the bottom.

(Question 1) - do I need to change seals in lower unit ?

Question 2 - were exactly is the water intake located?

Question 3 - do I need a new water pump ?

Pictures attached

Any help would be really appreciated

Thanks
Tim

You need to bring water level up another 10" in your test bucket !

yeah just looks like exhaust/unburned fuel from choking it too much when trying to start it. the water intake on these little pin-drive lowers is right under the cavitation plate at the rear. just hook your peepers on to it and check if its clogged. but won't pump a thing without some water over it! now it definetely needs a new impeller. only takes 30 min or so to change!

Guys thankyou so much for the replies. Would you beable to pin point the water intake location for me. As I'm not to technical. I thought the water intake was the plate with the 3 little holes.

Much appreciated
Thanks

I would say that the prop and propshaft are splined and NOT a pin drive.----Look at the screen behind the propeller, that is the main water intake.------Water must be well above the impeller as it is NOT self priming..

When I stater the engine for the first time it was in the bucket filled with water all the way up to the fin.
Looks like a new impeller job.
Some one said only a 30min job. Any idea on parts cost and were best to buy?
Thanks

Some will argue.-------Water has to be 6 or 8" ABOVE the impeller in a test bucket !!-------All the exhaust bubbles in the water prevent pump from working.------The impeller does not work when there is too much air ( exhaust ) in the water !!

You cannot hook up the usual muffs to this motor to run it on a water hose instead of a bucket. There is a special type water hookup doohickie made for this style of water pickup. I think it would still be available.
