Hello I have a question.

Today I tried to get my buddy up on skis today. He weighs 240Lbs. My boat had a hard time getting up on plane so we tried it again except me and his son stood towards the front of the boat and finally got up on plane and got himm up until of course he fell down after a while. My question is I own a 88 horsepower SPL V-4 Evinrude. Is this normal for that to happen. After we went back to shore I talked to my buddy I tried to pull up on skis today and he said that the horsepower to pull somebody up is have your weight. So to effectively pull him up at his weight at 240LBS I would have to have a 120 Horsepower motor. Does this sound right. After that I pulled people on the tubs and had no problems at all plaining the boat came up quickly but with him it was hard to plane.

There's is a lot involved here. Horse power, prop pitch, motor trim, and last but maybe the biggest factor is the skier himself. An experienced skier can help the boat pull him out. On 2 skies you can pump yourself up sorta like pumping a big fish in. On a slalom you need to take off with your rear foot out of the foot piece and reach forward as far as you can with your hands. I weigh 230 and your motor would have little trouble pulling me out if I let it. I could also probably make it drag me all over the lake without pulling me up too if I wanted.
