Evinrude 1989 SPL 88 horsepower outboard Lower unit

Hello again,<br /><br />I have a quick question? I was taking the upper vent plug out of the lower leg unit to see if it takes a o-ring or teflon washer, anyway there was a little fine metal shavings on the magnetic pickup is this normal? Also this upper plug looks like it has a built in seal are they removalable. I want to change the lower leg unit oil and want to change the seals out on both plugs. My motor model number is E88MSLCER Thank you

Hey Bubba.<br /><br />The vent and drain plug takes an oring PN 333572. Good idea to replace.<br /><br />It's normal to have a little "flaking" on the magnets. Shards is NOT normal. If unsure, take the plug to a trusted local wrench for an opinion.<br /><br />The flakes will feel soft and not hard like metal shards would.
