Evinrude 2 HP won't start . . . What Year?

I just bought a 2 HP Evinrude that has been sitting for quite a few years. The Model number is E2RC0C and the serial number is B105274. Does anyone know what year this is? The guy I bought it from said the last time he used it that it ran good. I can't get it going. What is my course of action? New plug? Clean points (how do I do this)? Clean carb? It does not seem to be getting any spark. Also, where should the control knobs be at (Idle-top? and Fast-bottom?)? It really looks to be in fine shape but would appreciate any advice. Thanks

If you have no spark, then it's likely you'll need to clean your points and possibly replace your condensor. Points seem to corrode pretty good, if they sit for a long time and condensors tend to fail as well.

First, find out what is wrong. You can waste a lot of time "fixing" stuff that isn't broke. You can also introduce new troubles messing with stiff that isn't broke.

Do "Awakening a sleeping outboard", then, if needed, "Outboard won't start", both in the Engine FAQs Forum.

If all else fails, get a Service Manual. It is a very bad idea to work on an outboard without a manual unless you are very experienced.

Most of the virtuoso Techs I know won't touch an outboard without a manual.

Well . . . . I can tell you that I certainly don't know what the heck I am doing, so I think I'll just bring it in. Thanks for the advice.

One last thing though . . . . it says next to the gas cap that it is 100:1 for the mixture. Is that correct? I've read that it should be 50:1.

remove the 100:1 label, there was a service bulletin, years ago to remove it. 50:1 is correct.

I better take it in . . . . I can even figure out how to get the cover off on this damn thing.
