am looking at what appears to be a mid to late 80's 2 hp, cosmetically excellent but with no apparent spark, any ideas on a worst case repair scenario, owner looking for $100

Model number?

For $100, even with no spark it is a good deal.

Good luck. :)

Re: evinrude 2 hp

I'm just doing up a couple of 2hp Evinrudes.

On one of them I put a complete new ignition system in, which consists of a coil, condensor and a set of points. That's about it on that motor. Very easy to do, and cheap too ;o)

If you don't want to replace the whole lot, start with the spark plug & HT lead, then the points, then the condensor and finally the coil, (which is the most expensive part), until you get a good spark.

I don't know what the cost of the coil would be in dollars, but I paid £20 for a new one, and OMC spares are very expensive over here!

Good luck.
Steve
