Hello,

Out of storage I pulled a Evinrude 2 motor that hasn't run since 1992. By the fuel cap it says "Mix 50 parts Gasoline with 1 part lubricant, refer to owners manual". I no longer have the manual, what type of fuel/lubricant should I be using?

Thanks.

Re: Evinrude 2 late 80's. Fuel Question

Hi,

Use regular unleaded gas and any TC-W3 rated 2-stroke outboard oil mixed at 50:1. 2-stroke oil for air cooled engines (chainsaw weedwhacker etc) is different.

Those little engine really sip the gas, you might not want to mix up 5 gallons worth... it'd take you ages to burn that much!

Remember on those ones:
1) there is a fuel shutoff valve at the back under the gas tank
and 2) the vent on cap needs to be opened to allow fuel to flow properly. On mine the vent vibrates closed if you only open it a bit... If I open the vent all the way open, it holds itself open.

Also, you might want to make sure that there is gear oil in the lower unit before you run it. There is only 1 plug. After draining, lay it on it's side and dribble in outboard gear oil until it's full... jiggle prop a little to get air bubbles out. Only takes a couple ounces.

Impeller is not hard to change... if it's been sitting a long time you might wanna change that too.

good luck.
