I've got an 25 on my boat that I just bought and I have been having some minor issues with the boat running rough/rich and missfireing. After changing a few things cleaning the carbs and such I noticed that the carb. has a line going to it from a black electrical device to the left/below the carb. (looking from the front of the boat) with a red lever on it, It was about in the middle when I noticed it and turned it towards the front of the boat and it ran much worse then turned it all the way towards the rear and it ran much better. Of course knowing not what this particular device does its now turned enough to where the boat still runs and idles fine but still has a slight missife. I just need to know where the lever needs to be set and if that isnt my issue where to look for my slight low speed missfire.

Thanks, Nick

That device is the electric primer. The lever should be turned to point to the rear for normal operation. Turning it towards the front is for emergency starting with a dead battery. It will not run worth a hoot that way.

Check your spark plugs. They could be fouled from running with the primer set to manual (very rich mixture that way).

Re: Evinrude 25

Thanks guys! I had a feeling thats what it may be used for. I just changed the plugs to the proper champion plugs a few minutes ago and it will be reset it to its proper place.
