Bought this boat/ engine in 2007' , enjoyed it for a few years with only minor repair incidents ( Fuel diaphragm & gear pin ) , it sat for 3 years while i was working out of state. I moved back and checked on the boat/ motor. I bought new fuel and blew out the lines etc. before trying to start it, it initially started but would only run for 5 to 10 seconds which eventually reduced to about 3 seconds then it eventually failed to start.
The boat was admittedly starting to idle rough the last year on the water/ last few trips.
Other info:
It always ran good , but i did notice one quirk in which at full throttle it would occasionally bog down after being at full throttle for several minutes , to me this seemed like the float bowl wasn't keeping up because if i decreased throttle for a brief period i could then get it back up to full throttle , yet other days this problem didn't manifest so i'm not sure.
I notice minor oil in the water while running, so i figure if oil can be oozing out water may also be finding it's way in, or is this not a major concern ? Also i don't want to pollute the very outdoors that i enjoy. So if there's a problem in lower end / gears or cooling system i want to address it.
I'm interested in:
Carburetor settings , idle , high speed , low speed etc. ,, as well as just buying a Carb rebuild kit if you have links for proper parts and ANY tune up tips.
Lower End: Rebuild kits - any gaskets that might leak oil whether related to lower end cooling or any other en-closer that may be culprit to this leaking oil.
Best set of spark plugs for this motor: , previously bought a very expensive pair with double firing gaps but they wouldn't even start this motor, put the old back in.
ANY EXPERT TIPS or advice as to how to complete ALL THE ABOVE as i will be doing this myself possibly with the help of a friend who is a certified auto mechanic , myself i fix my own vehicles / dirt bikes since high school but limited outboard motor experience.
My ultimate goal is to restore the motor in likewise manner that i restored the old Starcraft boat in the photo , right down to painting the motor cover and shaft , so any original photo's of this motor are appreciated also, thanks all, B
COUPLE PHOTO'S and all advice is APPRECIATED >>>>>>>>>>>
