Overheated and blew the head gasket on (I Think) a 1983 Evinrude 25hp ( E25ECTD). Motor was in excellent shap, ran good and always starts. Not sure why the overheat. Impeller replaced last year. Pulled lower and pump looks new. All cooling lines and screen intake clear. Possible tStat failure? Cylinder and pistons look good, Here's the question, Will this run without the temp sensor on the head? Part number 386686. I use this motor on a pontoon barge that is very seldom used, The buzzer obviously doesn't work. I always just watch for a tell tale stream out the back. ( I had the engine at idle at the dock , and think something may have blocked the intake while I was off the boat ). The parts discontinued and I would rather not replace if all it does is send a signal to a buzzer that doesn't work or I couldn't hear.

Will run just fine without the sensor. I myself would get the buzzer working but that is up to you.

Best to find what is wrong.-----Buzzer / wiring / sending unit.-------New sensor unit appears to be available, not cheap but available.
