I just replaced my top crank bearing with an automotive caged bearing that fits perfectly. Not as many rollers and easy to deal with. Anyone else done this? Am I asking for trouble? The bottom bearing is of the original type - messy rollers.

I kinda made a puller to get the bearings out but one question - how on earth do you get the large brass insert out below the crank? It has a seal behind it that I would like to replace. And, is that seal the same size as the top seal - I can't really tell until I get it out. I have also discovered that my automotive bearing guy has seals the same as these.

And I asked before and go no reply - anyone know the torque setting for the conrod bolts? I ordered a manual but it is taking ages to arrive.

You need to check the spec of the bearing, allot of the time the bearings in 2 stroke motors have a slighty larger tolerance due to the rapid expansion caused by the engine heating up , I have just replaced the bottom crank bearing on a 70hp and it has the C3 rating you can get the standard bearing of the shelf but the C3 has a different tolerance, I think the danger is if it gets to hot to quick it will bind up.

Well, it was a similar kind of fit. I guess time will tell. If it works I'll use these bearings again - a lot easier.
