Evinrude 30 hp extension kit?

Hi. I picked up this. 1985 evinrude 30 hp. Has a strange looking extension casing I'm assuming is to convert short shaft to long shaft. Part number stamped in extension housing is 327941. Question is how did the kit handle lengthening the shift shaft? I don't see any connection piece its one piece all the way to the top of the extension housing. We're you expected to pull the powerhead to install the longer shift shaft? I'm looking to sell the extension as a kit so just trying to sort this out.
