We have obtained an older (year unknown)4hp Evinrude, it is a twin cylinder water cooled outboard. This model is without a gearbox it has to do a 360 turn for reversing. The motor is partly dismantled and we are restoring it, as we think it could still have some use fishing.
Serial number we think is OMC#321131, there is another mark that states 11/84.

We have successfuly started the motor and it runs okay, except it is not complete.
We are seeking help for the following.
1) The connection from the throttle which runs around the engine cowl front and the carb. This is missing and have no idea how it works.
2) The reverse lock on the lower unit. Again we have some parts but no idea how it works to lock the motor down when the motor is turned 360 degress for backing up. i.e. lock when backing up and free to kick up when going forward.

Anyone who can help us it will be most appreciated. Are there any sites we can access manual diagrams?

many thanks

Re: Evinrude 4 hp

There is a plate somewhere on the engine, most likely on the port (left) transom bracket (the clamp that attaches the engine to the boat). This plate will have the model number and serial number of the engine. We will need the MODEL number to determine the year of the engine.

The may also be a core plug (looks like a US quarter size freeze out plug) on the powerhead (block) with those same numbers.

Once we have the MODEL number we can see about geting the proper diagrams to you.

Re: Evinrude 4 hp

OMC Guru Joe,
Many thanks for pointing out where the serial number and model number was. They had been taped over.
The Evinrude 4 hp Serial Number is A0333347 and the model number is 48B36E.
Looking forward to hearing if you help.
The motor was purchased as part of the purchase of a 34 foot yacht which we refurbished. It had been used on an inflatable tender. Now the yacht is finished we are doing up the other parts. Our belief is that it has very little use as compression is good and it runs well.
regards
