Evinrude 40 - 1974 LU fit a 1960 engine?

I have a 1960 Lark 40. Bought a 1974 40 hp lower unit, new in box at a great price. Looked the same externally and all bolt holes.<br /><br />Got it home and realized I didn't look closely enough as the water pump and water tubes are different. Still think that it might fit with different water supply tubes. Don't have a picture of how the 1974 tubes fit...Any advice?

I'm going to bump this back up because as soon as it was posted, about 20 other posts were ahead of it. It appears that this board timestamps my posts one hour backwards then sorts by time. No idea why that is happening, but hope somebody sees it this time...
