Hi!
I have a 1986 40 hp 2 cyl Evinrude which have been acting strange lately. It starts and runs at low rpm. When I try to rev it up it bugs off. It sounds like it is not getting enough fuel. I noticed a tiny fuel leak from the inlet on the fuelpump. The pump has been mended with some epoxy glue just at the inlet for the fulehose. I took the fuelpump of and noticed that the old epoxy was falling apart. Hence the leak of fuel. I took apart the pump and glued the inlet with some new epoxy. There is no leak anymore. The engine worked ok the first 2-3 minutes, then it worked poor with the same symptomes like before. I pulled the choke and suddenly it worked close to normal. I been running the engine for 2-3 hrs with the choke on, and it works ok at high rpm.
When I push the choke back in, it is not possible to go more than maybee 2000 rpm.
I have tried to pump the bulb, but it doesnt help. It stays hard. I have changed the sparkplugs, checked the fuelline and cleaned the carbs.
I probably should replace the whole fuelpump with new gaskets and diaphrame. Any other suggestions?

All the best from Paul

1. Fuel pump replacement.

2. It's time for a TOTAL carburetor rebuild.

If you don't do both, you're in for a cylinder meltdown.
