Recently picked up a 60s glass runabout with presumably a 40HP Evinrude. I cant find much information on the 40502M model. Anyone on here with some information about them? Cant even seem to find correct parts diagrams for it.

I have it running but could use some new gaskets and carburetor parts. Found a diagram on marineengine.com but the carb assembly it shows doesn't match mine. I have both a low and high-speed needle adjustment, as well as a different electric choke solenoid. Thanks for the help!

Don't worry about the M in the model #------Pictures of your motor help.-----To me it sounds like someone was desperate in their trouble shooting.---- Decided to install a carburetor with the adjustable. high speed.-----So post your compression numbers.-----And test for spark.----Spark must jump a gap of 1/4" or more to be called good.----If you do get it running install a new impeller for water pump !----Your location ?

Getting it running isn't so much the issue. I've got it running, and it runs and idles pretty good. Just a little confused on the carb situation. What model uses this carb? I'm in Vermont.

A 1959 model 35 HP might use that carburetor.----Is the serial # on the block the same as on the transom bracket ??----I am thinking the powerhead may have been replaced.---Or electric start added later.

looks like you may be right on that 1959 model carburetor. The serial #'s do match.
