Evinrude 40hp lower unit removal 1992 model te40elenj

Anyone have detailed instrctions with pics on removing the lower unit on a 1994 40hp evinrude outboard mainly looking for shift rod disconnect . i have done mercrusier i/o
but this is my first outboard so ant help would be great.

Your shift linkage will disconnect under the lower carb. You need to remove the bolt/pin and should look something like this picture. It can be difficult to get at that pin, and a swivel socket works well. Good Luck

OK I removed starter and can see the shiftrod bolt looks like 3/8 or so . do i just have to remove that bolt and the whole shiftrod will come out with the lower unit? does the control hacve to be in forward gear ? which direction should i rotate the prop when putting unit back on .
