I'm sorry this is my first post, but looking at buy a 2nd hand motor and the model number is E40RCLY.

Can't find much info on them. Deciphering the numbers, E = Evinrude 40 = 40HP rope start, but the last three numbers do they mean C = 8 and L = long shaft, but what is the Y?

If someone is fluent in this feel free to correct all or part of my interpretation. I'm not precious.

Cheers,

Andy.

Re: Evinrude 40HP

Great thanks, one question though. The link you posted has a slightly different number referred to.

How do you work it out entirely. The one I am looking at is supposedly a commercial version.

BTW do they have a charging circuit?

TIA.

Re: Evinrude 40HP

Hi guys,

Found this webpage which lists it as an 88 model.

http://www.skoterskroten.com/img/arsmodellstabell.pdf

Not sure how that figues in the model code description at the begining of the document but there you go.

No charge circuit though :-( had a look at pictures of the one I'm looking at and also a 40HP with elect start and charge circuit and the commercial motor is simply lacking all that elec equipment.

Cheers, for any concern. I still would lile to know what the exact model code means E40RCLY.

Thanks,

Andrew.

E = Evinrude
40 = HP
RC = Rope start - commercial
Y = 1988.... commercial engines used a different suffix than general.
12 years too late but there you go. Now I can start rebuilding mine
