Evinrude 50HP - Fuel issue??

Hi Ho Boating Buddies! :)

I have a "new-to-me" Yarcraft with an '84 Evinrude 50 on it. I took it out 5+ times and it ran beautifully. The last time I took it out it died on me...sounded almost like I ran out of fuel but I had just put in 4 gallons (50:1mix).
The fuel bulb was firm and the tank was vented (been there, done that:rolleyes:).

The when I try and start it, it will start but it immediately cuts off...again, like I am starting it without fuel.

I took it out of the water and:

- checked that fuel came through to the fuel pump when the fuel bulb is squeezed. It does.
- checked the fuel pump. Diaphragm is in good shape, springs are seated and moving freely.
- changed the fuel line from the fuel pump to the carbs (it looked like it had a small crack).
- squeeze the bulb, fuel comes through to the carbs.
- removed, cleaned, and rebuilt carbs with kits (new needles, seats, and gaskets.) It actually looked pretty good - I think they were cleaned in the not too distant past.
- I replaced the spark plugs - the old ones did not look fouled or anything, just trying to love the engine.

It'll start if I spray starter fluid in the intake but it will not run. I can't help but think it's a fuel problem but I can't see any issues with the fuel system so far (I am definitely not a mechanic...just a gal with some tools and a Sealoc manual).

What should I try next? Help!

Thanks a bunch for reading through all the details.

Cheers,
T

Don't use starter fluid as it has no lubrication in it. Put a little gas mix in a spray bottle and use it instead. It sure sounds like your not getting any gas from the carb. to the cylinders. Did you set up your needles on the cabs. when you reinstalled them? Also, did you do a link and sync. once the carbs. were reinstalled? You should try to get an original OMC factory paper manual for your specific year and model. They are much better than a Sealoc. Best of luck. Rick.
