The water from tell tale is suposed to remain cool. It does not circulate through block.

Its only purpose is to show that water pump is working. It does indicate that water is circulating through block howerver.

The water that is around the temp. sensors are the same temp. as water to thermosttats.

If thermostats do not open water becomes hotter and sets off alarm triggered by sensors when they ground out therby seting off warning horn with constant tone.

Indicating an overheat condition.

Water from tell tale can become heated if their is a restriction of hot water comeing thru thermostats back down exaust leg.

Or if the combustion tempetures go shy high because of lean runing condition. Water becomes heated while on its way up thru water supply tube from water pump.

When this happens motor is about ready to blow a hole in a piston or worse.

Bottom line....water from tell tale is to always remain cool.

If it isint....sometings wrong!

Good luck!

Back a month or so ago Boat Boy asked Joe Reeves if water from tell tale is before thermostats or after thermostats.

Joes answer was!....Before thermostats! and this is true for all models of OMC/BRP outboard engines.

Hope I didnt misquote you Joe. If I did then please correct me.

"The servicebulletin according to outlet of cooling-water to the pea-hole from the top of the motor, hase been done."

I've done the same on my '86 70 horse Johnson. Since then, I've noticed an increase in temp at the telltale hose that I didn't have when the water came out of the original outlet on the lower side of the exhaust cover. It's not burning hot, just warmed up pretty well. I attributed the temp increase to the fact that the water is now coming out of the exhaust cover thus warming some. At idle, I can touch the thermostat and block without burning myself and at idle on the muffs, water isn't coming out of the exhaust ports (my hand will get wet if I hold it over the ports). BTW- My old thermostat would let water through the ports at idle.
