Evinrude 60hp

UK Calling,just purchased a speed boat with a Evinrude 60hp I got it for a bargain the guy just wanted it of his driveway,the only problem is that<br />it needs a new water pump and new piston rings,what sort of job is to replace these parts,and can you bye manuals for it.<br />Thanks,

Howdy, MD.<br /><br />There have been at least three completely different 60hp Evinrudes.<br /><br />To be of any help to you we must have the model number.<br /><br />Water pump overhaul is a pretty routine job if you have the correct manual.<br /><br />Why do you believe that it needs new rings?<br /><br />Let us know.

Hi JB,<br />I pick the boat up later today, its 3.30am I am on nights at the moment, the guy bought the boat last year with a faulty engine the guy he bought it of told him what was needed to get the engine running, but he has not had the time to repair it.<br />Iam working Saturday night so I will get in touch,<br />Thanks for the reply, I love this site

Could be one of those "Change stuff until it starts to work" wrenches.<br /><br />Get the engine. Then we'll troubleshoot it and see if it really needs rings. The first thing you need to do is a compression test.<br /><br />Meanwhile, we still need a model number so you can get yourself the correct manual and we can give you correct advice.

Hi Guys ,thanks for the reply,I picked the boat up today,the engine is all stripped down and it does need a new piston and rings, I have been looking for the serial No but can't find it,what info do you need to find out what year and type of engine it is, I have took some diamension for you piston 80.40mm their is NUMBER on the block <br />326100 also stamped on a what looks like a core plug NUMBER E60ELCIA also on each carb their is a Number 3962291A 60L MX 5LJ Number 396290A 60MX 5JJ<br />I am on nights and I have brought the engine into work to clean it up,let me know if you need any more info.

Muffdiver,<br /><br /> That number, E60ELCIA, is your model, Thats the number you need to order parts. That number shows it is A 60hp, Electric start, long shaft, 1981 Evinrude outboard.

Cheers Guys, just took the piston out it has a 1/2 inch hole in the side of it and the remanes of it are splattered on the liner walls, how has this happened : can you recomend a good Manual for this engine.

MD,I come up with 1981 2cylinder. 3.187 inch bore.<br /> pistons and rings are available in std,.020,<br /> .030.Same parts fit 80-85. probably harder to find over there but a good dealer may be able to help.<br /> Perhaps you can find someone on line that will ship over there.

Best manual would be factory manual.You may be able to find on ebay or at www.kencook.com<br /> They do reprints of originals.Dont know if they ship oveseas.Second choice would be Celoc or Clymers and there are some others.<br /> Manuals are at the bottom of this page,<br />Amazon.com and again ebay among others.
