Evinrude 6hp fisherman shifter issues

Hello everyone I’m a new member here! Back in January I acquired a 12 foot jon boat with a 6hp evinrude fisherman motor included. Well I’m just now getting around to it and it the shifter is broken on it and the motor is currently locked up (flywheel will not turn and the prop will only turn within a little bit of space). The whole shifter can just be pulled out of the motor and it just flops around I will include pics tomorrow! Any suggestions now would be greatly appreciated!

Also I plan on having this whole motor torn apart. So any other general maintenance tips to get it back in running shape would also help. This motor was sitting in water when I bought it and one of the cylinders did have water in it that I drained before it sat.

If water got on the bearings then the motor needs a complete teardown.----Need to find out why it will not turn.----Do not spend any beer tokens on parts.----Do a complete inspection first.

Got you. I’m gonna begin tearing into it tomorrow starting at the head and lower unit. It used to turn over before the shifter broke and it locked up.

Water on the bearings spells death for the 30 wee needles on the big end bearings.----Motors that had water inside must run within a few hrs.----Or be torn down on the spot to get water out !

Could you specify which bearings these are and where they’re located?

gotcha, I’m new to working on outboard motors just lawnmower and dirtbike experience
