Greetings...
First time post on this forum I must say it seems to be a hive of information, I have just bought a speedboat which has a evinrude 70 Hp on the back it is sadly siezed from water ingress (i am told ) looking through the recipts I see it has had a new piston and set of rings before and reading posts I see that there is a gasket somewhere which can can problems with water in the engine ? I think i will strip the head off and have a look  , one question is where the water pump sucks through the gear housing there is some plastic gauze which looks to have broken on some sections how is this accessed ? , I persume it is from inside the housing ?

Thanks in advance

The plastic gauze....... I assume you're speaking of the screen area which is the water intake. To gain access to that, you'll need to drop the lower unit and remove the water pump assembly.

A powerhead that has been siezed due to ingressing water, unless it has been worked on within a few hours after encountering that problem, sorry to say, is usually not repairable. However, I do wish you luck.

Thanks joe....
My other hoby is stationary engines so getting pistons out which have been siezed for 100 years is not a problem, it wil come out but i am not sure in how many pieces :).
