You may want to think long and hard about fixing this motor. With Evinrude no longer producing engines, the future of support for that motor is bleak. Just look at how fast BRP dropped support for the Ficht motors.

On the other hand, it's a 14 year old motor. It's happening a little quicker than you might have thought, but your repair sources will be NOS and aftermarket parts, and donor motors -- as with many of the motors in my little stable. I think it's a pretty good bet that aftermarket manufacturers will see this as an opportunity, so availability will probably not be much of a problem. And Chinese competition will probably keep prices in check.

Maybe some room for optimism for DIY owners.

+ 1

then buy a GOOD repair/ troubleshooting manual preferably BEFORE you go out into the Irish Sea again and have to endure the embarrassment of the Tow Of Shame.

Have a look at the RYA ' library ' .

Oooooh yeah chinese aftermarket parts for an E-tec. That is not a vote of confidence for owning one. I am just saying maybe time to think about the future of your motor.

Well, sort of. China steps in to drive the price.

China will drive nothing. The new chinese VRO pumps are $180, American Built VRO is still $400. The chinese pumps have done nothing to drive that price down. Then you have to look at a the VRO has a rep for failing could you imagine the chinese one. No china will only help rebuilders and service departments.

That diagnostic disc provides real time data a.t. the description. Note that it works with Windows systems only, though.

Crosbyman's suggestions are the starting point, for sure. Sandpaper all connections starting with the main battery cables -- all should be bright.

Don't chuck the motor yet……... my 2005 75hp ETEC runs perfectly mind you I have less than 500 hrs but it runs perfectly these motors are known to run 2-3000 hrs just give it care, tlc and xd-100 and clean the VST filter :)

Before you throw a motor away wouldn't it be better to diagnose?

1st verify good battery. Have it load tested and hook up wire clean and tight.

Now then, does the tilt and trim work? If so let's start with neutral...verify you are in neutral by activating fast idle. Does it crank now? If not check fuses. Report back and some one will chime in.

If tilt and trim does not work you need to check fuses.

Thanks Jakedaawg . tilt works fine, battery is good as i bought it new in the autumn. But thanks, i will try the rest. All marine engineers over here are not working due to the virus. Maybe thats whats wrong with the motor....
