Evinrude 85HP Throttle Cable Keeps Breaking

I have an Evinrude 85 HP HydroElectric Shift 1972, model 85293R. The cable was broke when I got the boat. I told the old one off. Took it to my local boat supply store and sized the old one up with the new one. Put the new one on then Took the boat out for about 2 hours and came home. Today as I am getting ready to get the boat ready I figured I would at least check the cable and it is broken . Can anyone help me with to why it keeps breaking? I have been told I am missing parts on the throttle cable but what parts? I have looked at the parts diagram and I am not sure 100% what I am missing. If anyone can help me it would be greatly appreciated.

Take it in to a local Evinrude dealer and get his opinion.

Did it actually break, or did the end come off? Probably end came off, due to improper installation. If the wire isn't kinked, it will come off.

206408 is missing.----Called a " casing guide " in the book.----I suspect someone tried to fit a newer " snap in " cable into that box !!
