Evinrude 88 SPL foulout

I have a 1988 Evinrude 88 SPL. The lower left cylinder fouls out the plug within 4 or 5 minutes at higher RPMs. It will idle for a long time. THe plug looks like it is coated with metal from the cylinder breaking down. Is it time for a new motor?

Looks like you have a big problem. remove tha cylinder head from that side, probebly a blown head gasket has caused the trouble but the damage is done. Reckon that you will need a new piston.

THanks, I was afraid of that. ANy idea on cost. This is an old motor and I don't want to pour too much into it.

The cost will depend on who does the work, you or the shop. You can get a piston rings and gaskets for around $200. Labor rates can be over $60 an hour
