Evinrude 88spl driveshaft to crankcase

[91 Sprint]

Good Day!

I have just installed a waterpump kit on my 1991 Evinrude 88spl, now I'm ready to reinstall the lower unit, I notice the drawing in my seloc book shows a O ring under the impeller, I've never came across an Oring that seats on somthing that turns and I noticed on the drawing an O ring saying on the drawing that it is for the driveshaft to crankcase, can someone tell me where it seats? I installed the o ring under the impeller cup. However I didnot install the one under the impeller.

Was there a gruve in the bottom of the impeller around the d/s area ?? If there was, that's where the oring goes.

I had same issue. No I ring went there. I believe seloc is wrong there and about a million other places. I have one too. Need real manual

no groove that I saw the only one was on the pump housing @ the top, nothing below the drift key but the mechanical seal. do you know if a O ring goes on the drive shaft? the drawing says there is a drive shaft to crankcase O ring ??

looks like I need a better Manual, it's a Seloc and kinda vague. thanks for caring enough to stop and help.

On a '91, you glue a thin oring in the driveshaft groove just below the splines. they changed things in '92 so be sure of the model number.

The fatter o-ring goes around the driveshaft just before you install the impeller, you can see the recess in the bottom of the impeller for the oring.

Thanks I did see what looked to be a groove under the splines of the drive shaft. However, I didn't notice an area for a O ring before the impeller. positive of the year 1991. Thanks again for your help!

yea mine is a '93 and I did not place an o ring where you are speaking of I have no problems w water in lu. I hope you get your issue resolved
