I have a 1965 Evinrude 9.5 hp ob with a very small gear oil leak at the skeg ( my bad, busted shear pin in the river last week and damaged the skeg). I've found a Johnson lower end on CL for a 9.9 or 15 hp. Does anyone know if that lower end or maybe just the skeg will fit a 9.5? Not sure what year the lower end is...

Timsoutboard.com will have replacement skeg. Get new ribbon seal too, and use 3M 847 or equivalent sealer.

I am curious are people getting kickbacks from tims outboards? I see them mentioned alot. I would think to try and source the part locally, Maybe support a local business. Maybe find a whole parts motor locally.

I for one have used Tim's as a source of used parts and I get no " kickbacks" .Their service was rapid and prices were fair even shipping stuff to me in Canada . I buy locally whenever price gouging is not involved but when one is looking for something specific and "used" … anything and anywhere goes for me.

Buying a parts motor seems somewhat prohibitive and may eventually end up as a junk pile if not sold off piece by piece
to recoup one's investment .

More like a kick-forward! I run a one-man outboard repair business (2 - 35hp J/E two-strokes ‘50’s+), and I call Tim’s for parts about twice a week. EXTREMELY well stocked with new factory parts - like gaskets/impellers/recoil springs, carb kits etc, and most always have used/obsolete parts (tiller arms/recoil housings/carb’s/coils/nuts & bolts etc etc) at reasonable prices. I always get parts next day from 200 miles away if I call in the morning - through Speedee delivery (local around Mn.. UPS to rest of US probably 2 days). They are friendly, knowledgeable, helpful, and make parts sourcing easy! I am happy to steer business their way! My turnaround time for customers is 2-3 days.. win/win.

Well at least you are advertising for a competitor on IBOATS forum. I am sure they appreciate it.

imho two separate issues here ….

the fact that folks all gather around this watering hole to share info on all subjects linked to boating benefits everybody and hopefully the site owner's parts business.

I always buy new props and many Sierra aftermarket parts here at iboats, and steer customers here too. Great prices/selection and quick shipping.
